GUNS/IVANKA/MASS SHOOTINGS/TRUMP FAMILY: “Mayor Lori Lightfoot of Chicago harshly criticized Ivanka Trump on Tuesday [8-6-19] after the president’s daughter weighed in on that city’s weekend of violence. Just after noon, Ms. Trump, a White House adviser, wrote on Twitter that ‘with seven dead and 52 wounded near a playground in the Windy City,’ the nation ‘mustn’t become numb’ to inner-city violence even as it reels from two mass shootings that killed dozens last weekend. The problem? Ms. Trump’s second tweet was not entirely accurate, according to Ms. Lightfoot. The numbers cited, seven dead and 52 wounded, included all the people in the city who were killed or hurt by gunfire over the weekend; they did not reflect the toll of a single shooting…The mayor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday [8-7-19], but at the Tuesday news conference, Ms. Lightfoot lamented that there had been “zero contact” between Ms. Trump and the city before the tweets were published.”

TRUMP FAMILY/TRUMP PEOPLE: “A Chicago waitress was placed on leave after Eric Trump, one of the president’s sons, accused her of spitting on him while he was having dinner on Tuesday [6-25-19] night. An official with the Trump Organization, where Mr. Trump is an executive vice president, said the woman who spit on him was immediately handcuffed and detained by the Secret Service and the Chicago police. She was released after about two hours when Mr. Trump decided not to press charges. The episode on Tuesday at The Aviary, an upscale cocktail bar just west of downtown Chicago, was not the first time someone close to President Trump has reported harassment while out in public. Last year, protesters shouted ‘Shame!’ while Kirstjen Nielsen, then the secretary of homeland security, ate at a Mexican restaurant in Washington. Also last year, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was then the White House press secretary, was asked to leave a Virginia restaurant because of her political work.”

GOLF/IRELAND/TRUMP FAMILY: “When Eric and Donald Trump, Jr. arrived in the one corner of Ireland celebrating their father’s first visit as U.S. president, they had one question for the locals: ‘Does Doonbeg love Trump?’ Unlike the protests that greeted Trump in London this week, there were no inflatable blimps depicting him as a baby or large statues of him sitting on a golden lavatory, trousers around his ankles, when the president visited the tiny Irish village. Instead Doonbeg’s residents decked the streets in American flags and stars and stripes bunting, crediting Trump with securing their livelihoods when in 2014 he bought the nearby golf resort where he will spend the next two nights. Amid a celebratory street party of Irish dancing, Trump’s two sons went from pub to pub posing for selfies with kids, shaking hands and buying drinks for all the patrons.”

BRITAIN/FOREIGN DIGNITARIES/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/TRUMP FAMILY: “When Queen Elizabeth II welcomed the president on Monday [6-3-19] for his first state visit to Britain, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner watched from a Buckingham Palace balcony. Later, at a state banquet, Eric Trump posed for photographs. During dinner, Donald Trump Jr. tucked into a menu including lamb and halibut as Tiffany Trump chatted with the queen’s private secretary…They were also present on Tuesday [6-4-19] at Mr. Trump’s news conference with the British prime minister, Theresa May, seated in the second row, in front of some of the president’s senior government advisers. The president has also said that his children would join him on a tour on Tuesday of the Churchill War Rooms, and American officials said they might go to Normandy for the French leg of the trip, too. Whether they had official roles in the visit or not, the extended Trump family seemed to materialize in London overnight — all save the president’s youngest son, Barron, who stayed home.”

TRUMP BUSINESS/TRUMP FAMILY: “When Donald J. Trump became president, he left his eldest sons in charge of his company, with a mandate to continue expanding the family’s business and brand — which they said at the time was ‘the hottest it has ever been.’ Now, more than two years into his presidency, there is growing evidence that the Trump brand is cooling off. The latest indication was in Mr. Trump’s financial disclosure report, made public on Thursday [5-16-19], which showed that revenues across the president’s businesses in 2018 were down about 4 percent from the previous year. Many of his biggest revenue generators, like his Doral resort and Washington hotel, had only tiny increases, while revenues from his famed club, Mar-a-Lago, dropped nearly 10 percent. The New York Times dug through the numbers for clues about how Mr. Trump’s businesses are faring just past the midway point of his term in office. Here are five takeaway…”

DONALD JR/GOP/INTELLIGENCE/SENATE/TRUMP FAMILY: “Donald Trump Jr.’s political allies launched an all-out war against the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee, turning several Republican senators Thursday [5-9-19] against the panel’s chairman amid news that he subpoenaed testimony from the president’s son. The broadsides included tweets targeting the Republican chairman, Senator Richard M. Burr of North Carolina, calls from people close to the president to at least one vulnerable Republican senator, and a Breitbart story aimed at senators including the majority leader, Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, according to multiple people involved in the effort. Even President Trump got involved on Thursday, telling reporters he was ‘pretty surprised”’ his son — ‘a very good person’ — would be subpoenaed after Mr. Burr had said publicly he had found no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. The main target of the pressure campaign appeared to be Senator Thom Tillis, Republican of North Carolina, a close ally of Mr. Burr’s who is facing a conservative primary challenger next year.”

DEMS/HOUSE OF REPS/IMPEACHMENT/LAWSUIT/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/TRUMP FAMILY: “The Trump family lawsuit to block oversight of its finances has House Democrats scrambling to confront what many see as the gravest threat to congressional independence since the Nixon era, reviving internal debate over the ultimate weapon in the Democrats’ arsenal: impeachment. For nearly two weeks, Democrats have debated how to respond to Robert S. Mueller III’s findings that President Trump might have obstructed justice, with Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging her fractious rank and file to avoid a broad, open-ended impeachment inquiry she believed could backfire disastrously in 2020. But Democrats see Mr. Trump’s latest string of provocations — starting with his blanket declaration last week that he would defy all subpoenas requested by Democratic committees and culminating in this week’s legal action — as a dangerous abuse of executive authority that they must address forcefully. Allies of Ms. Pelosi are publicly floating possible countermeasures, including even pursuing a narrow path to impeachment based on Mr. Trump’s refusal to respect the oversight authority of Congress, a move modeled on the third article of impeachment drafted against President Richard M. Nixon in 1974.”

LEGAL/TERRORISM/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/TRUMP FAMILY: “A Massachusetts man was sentenced on Friday [4-19-19] to five years of probation after admitting he mailed threatening letters filled with a suspicious white powder to several prominent people, including U.S. President Donald Trump’s sons. Federal prosecutors in Boston had sought three years in prison for Daniel Frisiello, 25, of Beverly, Massachusetts, whose hoax letters included one in February 2018 addressed to Donald Trump Jr. Trump’s then-wife, Vanessa, opened the letter and was taken to the hospital. Investigators later determined the powder sent to Trump’s eldest son’s home was harmless, as was the substance contained in an earlier letter Frisiello sent during the 2016 presidential campaign to the Republican president’s son Eric Trump. U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel Gorton in Boston sentenced Frisiello to five years of probation, with one year to be served in home detention with location monitoring, and restitution.”

ROBERT MUELLER/RUSSIA INVESTIGATION/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/TRUMP FAMILY: “For two years, President Donald Trump and his close associates contradicted, denied and dodged reports and questions of Russian involvement in the 2016 campaign. Now that the Mueller report is out, redacted as it may be, we have the chance to fact-check those public denials against what many people close to the President actually told Mueller when they were questioned by the special counsel. Here are a few notable examples where the Mueller report contradicts public statements made by Trump and some of his associates. Trump Jr. and the Trump Tower meeting In July 2017, The Washington Post reported that Trump dictated Donald Trump Jr.’s statement over reporting from The New York Times that Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer in Trump Tower over the previous summer. What they told the public: Trump didn’t dictate his son’s statement. What they told Mueller: Yes, he did…The statement that emerged was also misleading in the way it characterized the topic of conversation. What they told the public: The meeting was about Russian adoption, not about the 2016 campaign. What they told Mueller: The meeting was promised to be about incriminating information on Hillary Clinton, but turned into a discussion on current sanctions on several Russians.”

IVANKA/NOMINATIONS/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/TRUMP FAMILY/WORLD BANK: “President Donald Trump considered nominating his oldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, to lead the World Bank, according to an interview published Friday [4-12-19] in which he also talked up his daughter’s future presidential bona fides. In an interview with The Atlantic, the president showered praise over all of his children, noting that his oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., a frequent fixture at political rallies, had really enjoyed his foray into politics, as has son Eric Trump. But the president was especially complimentary of a Trump child who has mostly stayed quiet about her political ambitions: Ivanka Trump. He even confirmed he’d considered picking her for a post in his administration…Trump confirmed he had seriously considered nominating his eldest daughter for a vacancy leading the World Bank, a rumor that drew backlash from the president’s opponents…Ivanka Trump, a senior adviser to her father, has long been the subject of intense interest from outside the White House.”

TRUMP FAMILY/TRUMP TAXES: “President Trump’s older sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, has retired as a federal appellate judge, ending an investigation into whether she violated judicial conduct rules by participating in fraudulent tax schemes with her siblings. The court inquiry stemmed from complaints filed last October, after an investigation by The New York Times found that the Trumps had engaged in dubious tax schemes during the 1990s, including instances of outright fraud, that greatly increased the inherited wealth of Mr. Trump and his siblings. Judge Barry not only benefited financially from most of those tax schemes, The Times found; she was also in a position to influence the actions taken by her family. Judge Barry, now 82, has not heard cases in more than two years but was still listed as an inactive senior judge, one step short of full retirement. In a letter dated Feb. 1, a court official notified the four individuals who had filed the complaints that the investigation was ‘receiving the full attention’ of a judicial conduct council. Ten days later, Judge Barry filed her retirement papers.”

CAMPAIGN FINANCE/DEMS/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/TRUMP FAMILY: “Kamala Harris received money from Donald Trump as recently as six years ago. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner hosted a Park Avenue fundraiser for Cory Booker. Kirsten Gillibrand took in Trump family donations three times across a seven-year period — and then gave a similar amount of money to a nonprofit years later after the president mocked her in a tweet. As the president gears up for his re-election fight, donor records show that six of the declared or potential Democrats itching to take him on have themselves been the beneficiaries of his — or his daughter’s — largesse. Harris, Booker and Gillibrand — along with Joe Biden, John Kerry and Terry McAuliffe — all share a common bond of receiving Trump family donations, adding another wrinkle to a crowded primary where candidates are expected to trumpet their distance from the president. An ideological shapeshifter whose decades in the public eye have spanned stints as a Republican, Democrat, Reform Party candidate and independent, Trump has donated across the spectrum from the establishment left to the far right. The recipients include both Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and politically exiled Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa). Many of Donald Trump’s donations fall into two categories: contributions to local pols and officials with whom he wanted to curry favor, or one-offs to prominent players on the national stage.”

LEGAL/MICHAEL COHEN/TRUMP BUSNIESS/TRUMP FAMILY: “Michael D. Cohen, President Trump’s former lawyer and fixer, met last month with federal prosecutors in Manhattan, offering information about possible irregularities within the president’s family business and about a donor to the inaugural committee, according to people familiar with the matter. Mr. Cohen, who worked at the Trump Organization for a decade, spoke with the prosecutors about insurance claims the company had filed over the years, said the people, who did not elaborate on the nature of the possible irregularities. While it was not clear whether the prosecutors found Mr. Cohen’s information credible and whether they intended to pursue it, the meeting suggests that they are interested in broader aspects of the Trump Organization, beyond their investigation into the company’s role in the hush money payments made before the 2016 election to women claiming to have had affairs with Mr. Trump. Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty last summer to arranging those payments.”

LEGAL/MICHAEL COHEN/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/TRUMP FAMILY: “U.S. President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen met last month with federal prosecutors in Manhattan and provided information about potential irregularities in the Trump family business, the New York Times reported on Friday [2-22-19]. The newspaper, citing people familiar with the matter, said prosecutors in the Southern District of New York also asked Cohen questions about Imaad Zuberi, a venture capitalist and donor to the president’s inaugural committee. Cohen, a former employee at the Trump Organization, provided the prosecutors with information about insurance claims filed by the company over the years, the New York Times reported. There was no indication that Cohen implicated Trump in the possible irregularities, the newspaper said. James Margolin, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney in Manhattan, declined comment. Amanda Miller, a spokeswoman for the Trump Organization, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Cohen did not reply to a request for comment.”

IVANKA/TRUMP FAMILY: “Just a few months before Donald J. Trump became the Republican nominee for president, The New York Post published an interview with his first wife, Ivana. Speaking from her seven-story townhouse on the Upper East Side, the Czech emigrant praised the restrictive immigration policies proposed by her ex-husband, before adding, ‘As long as you come here legally and get a proper job … we need immigrants,’ she said. ‘Who’s going to vacuum our living rooms and clean up after us? Americans don’t like to do that.’ That comment — loaded with both xenophobia and a snippet of truth — took on new relevance this month because of a work of performance art. For the better part of February, the artist Jennifer Rubell hired a look-alike of Ivana and Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, to vacuum in the former Flashpoint art gallery in Washington; the piece was titled “Ivanka Vacuuming.” The model put on stilettos and copies of the pale pink dress that Ivanka wore to G20 summit in 2017, which she attended in her official capacity as an adviser to the president. (The dress is also part of her clothing line.) The model did not speak as she vacuumed a small area of pink carpet, occasionally pausing to adjust the cord or sweep back their hair.”

LAWSUIT/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/TRUMP FAMILY: “U.S. President Donald Trump and his adult children on Thursday [2-21-19] urged a federal judge to dismiss a racketeering lawsuit accusing them of using the family name to promote sham marketing opportunities to vulnerable, financially struggling investors. Calling the lawsuit ‘implausible,’ the Trump family said in a filing in federal court in Manhattan that the four plaintiffs failed to prove there was fraud or intent to cause harm, or that any statements by Donald Trump caused losses. A spokeswoman for the plaintiffs, who went by pseudonyms, had no immediate comment. They accused the Trump family of having received millions of dollars of secret payments from 2005 to 2015 to endorse American Communications Network, which charged $499 for a chance to sell videophones and other goods, and two other businesses. The lawsuit said the Trumps deliberately conned victims into believing Donald Trump stood behind the investments and thought they would pay off, when the real goal was to enrich themselves. They said this violated a federal anti-racketeering law known as RICO.”

John McCain, she said Thursday [2-7-19] night. Appearing on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,’ McCain said she had not been aware that the couple would be attending his funeral, and that she hopes her eulogy — during which she criticized ‘cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice (her father) gave so willingly’ — made them uncomfortable…McCain’s jab at Ivanka Trump and Kushner comes following Trump’s recent attack on the late senator at a private lunch for television anchors last Tuesday, The New York Times reported. The President referenced McCain’s famous vote to sink the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and that “he wrote a book and the book bombed,” Trump said, according to the Times.”
