RUSSIA/SANCTIONS/TRUMP ADMIN/TURKEY: “The Trump administration on Monday sanctioned Turkey, a NATO ally, over its purchase of a Russian missile defense system – a long-awaited move that comes just weeks before President Donald Trump leaves office.

The new sanctions include a ban on all U.S. export licenses and loans to Turkey’s defense procurement agency and an asset freeze on its president, Ismail Demir, among other government officials. U.S. officials have long warned that Ankara’s purchase of the Russian system could jeopardize U.S. and European security.”
