AUTO INDUSTRY/ENVIRONMENT/EPA/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “Seventeen major automakers urged President Donald Trump on Thursday [6-6-19] to moderate his administration’s plan to freeze auto emissions standards and avoid a clash with California over rules designed to promote more efficient vehicles. The message from automakers comes just weeks before a final rule attacking the state and rolling back Obama-era standards is expected. And it is the industry’s most concerted criticism to date of the administration’s deregulatory plan, which some automakers have said was much more severe than they had sought…The automakers — including Ford, GM, Honda, Kia, Mazda, Porsche, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo — asked Trump to maintain a unified national emissions standard that continues to increase efficiency and adoption of electric vehicles. The proposal last year from EPA and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration proposed freezing auto standards starting with model year 2021 vehicles and attacking California’s authority to enforce more stringent standards within its borders and a dozen other states that follow its lead.”
