Reversing an earlier position, Trump’s Justice Department notified a federal appeals court in New Orleans late Monday [3-25-19] it would ask judges to toss out the entire Affordable Care Act, casting uncertainty over the future of a federal law that has extended health insurance to millions of Americans. The decision infuriated congressional Democrats, who promised an all-out war to protect the decade-old law, and puzzled some policy analysts and political strategists, who noted that previous Republican attempts to repeal Obamacare triggered a backlash that propelled Democrats back into the House majority in last November’s elections…Repeal and replacement of President Barack Obama’s signature health care overhaul has been a rallying cry for the GOP from the moment it was signed into law 10 years ago this month. Trump promised during his 2016 presidential campaign he would get the law overturned. GOP efforts to repeal Obamacare in Congress have repeatedly fallen short. Half of those surveyed in March by the Kaiser Family Foundation tracking poll had a favorable view of the law, and 39 percent didn’t like it.”
