GARY COHN/GOVERNMENT/IMMIGRATION/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “Gary Cohn, the former top economic adviser to President Donald Trump, told MSNBC on Thursday [1-24-19] that his former boss has ‘got to get the government open’ and allow a steady flow of immigrants into the U.S. to maintain economic growth. Cohn, a former executive at Goldman Sachs, was director of the National Economic Council until earlier this year, when he stepped down amid disagreements over the president’s tariff policies. ‘He’s got to get the government open,’ Cohn said, speaking to MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle in Davos, Switzerland, the site of the World Economic Forum. Trump was supposed to attend the forum but canceled his trip last week amid the government shutdown, now in its fifth week. As the president continues to call for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, funding for which he has insisted on if he is to sign legislation to end the shutdown, Cohn, a Democrat, said the United States continues to need ‘legal immigration.’”
