ELECTION/GOP/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford ended his short-lived bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday [11-12-19], just 60 days after he announced his challenge to President Donald Trump. Sanford made the surprise announcement at a news conference outside the New Hampshire statehouse. He said the impeachment inquiry has snuffed out his efforts to call attention to his critique of Trump as president. Sanford said he got into the race in an effort to raise issues important to him, like fiscal discipline, but wasn’t successful…Sanford failed to mobilize any measurable constituency here, largely greeted with lackluster crowds and a tepid following. Trump remains overwhelmingly popular among Republicans. Sanford recalled working out at a Planet Fitness gym in Manchester on Monday [11-11-19] night. As he was on an exercise machine looking at the row of televisions along the wall, he said every one of the major networks was talking about impeachment.”
