BUDGET/CALIFORNIA/EDUCATION/GOP/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says he’s ‘mad as hell’ and will push back hard against a proposal in Trump’s fiscal 2020 budget to cut nearly $1.3 billion in funding for after-school programs critical to millions of kids and their working parents — including 150,000 kids in California alone. After-school programs ‘save money. It’s about fiscal responsibility,’ said Schwarzenegger in an interview with POLITICO Tuesday [3-12-19], noting that he has had to battle both the George W. Bush and Obama administrations regarding proposed cutbacks to the programs…Schwarzenegger’s concerns are aimed at the Trump administration’s current proposal to slash funding for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers, a U.S. Department of Education Title IV program which delivers $150 million to programs that serve 150,000 kids in California. Schwarzenegger’s high-profile protest of the Trump budget cuts appeared Tuesday on Twitter, where the Republican former governor posted a video throwdown aimed at the president.”
