ELIZABETH WARREN/MITCH MCCONNELL/RACISM/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/TRUMP PEOPLE: “Mitch McConnell harshly condemned Rep. Steve King this week for his racist comments. But he has no plans to extend that condemnation to any of President Donald Trump’s controversial remarks. The Senate majority leader said Monday that King ‘should find another line of work’ after the Republican lawmaker from Iowa defended the terms ‘white nationalist’ and ‘white supremacist’ earlier this month, part of a GOP-wide pile-on that forced King from his committee assignments and led to House passage of a resolution condemning him. Like King, Trump has been accused of appealing to white nationalist groups and stoking racial divisions — having blamed ‘both sides’ for violence at a 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., and the past weekend renewing his attacks on Sen. Elizabeth Warren as ‘Pocahontas’ and referencing a historic massacre of Native Americans in South Dakota. But McConnell made clear he has no plans to chime in on Trump’s utterances, when asked by a reporter about the distinction between King’s comments and the president’s.”
