AGRICULTURE/CHINA/TARIFFS/TRADE WAR/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “China will buy more U.S. agricultural goods, the White House said in its readout of the trade-war ceasefire President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping reached in Buenos Aires this weekend. But the details, beyond Trump’s pledge to hold off on imposing additional tariffs, were blurry — like which ag products (and how much) China will purchase. Now the pressure’s on to reach a broader resolution before a 90-day clock runs out. — Trump’s power play on the Hill: The president vowed he would soon initiate the process of exiting NAFTA, which would raise the stakes for Congress to approve or reject the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement next year. — On the flip side: Farm bill negotiators might be under less duress to get a final measure passed this week. The timeline has shifted following the death of former President George H.W. Bush on Friday [11-30-18], as Trump and GOP leaders are thinking about punting Friday’s government funding deadline for a week or two.”
