IMMIGRATION/MIKE PENCE/TRUMP PEOPLE: “Vice President Mike Pence plans to urge the leaders of three Central American nations to do more to stop the flow of migrants from their countries in a meeting later Thursday [6-28-18], while Congress and the Trump administration struggle to find a solution back home. The vice president wraps up his three-country Latin America trip with a stop in Guatemala City on Thursday, when he and Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen will meet with the presidents of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to address the immigration crisis on the U.S. southern border. El Salvador’s vice president had been expected to attend instead of the president, who was in poor health but has recovered. Collectively, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador are home to the vast majority of migrants attempting to cross into the U.S…The Trump administration’s now-suspended policy to arrest adults caught illegally crossing the border had forced the separation of thousands of mostly Central American migrant families. Amid a public outcry over the ‘zero tolerance’ policy, President Donald Trump ordered that families be kept together, and Customs and Border Protection has paused prosecutions of parents. Most of the separated families, however, haven’t been reunited.”
