BORDER/IMMIGRATION/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “The two Honduran mothers didn’t run when the Border Patrol agents found them along a muddy border road Monday [6-25-18], near where Mexico ends and the U.S. begins. The suspected smuggler who guided the women, their children and two teenage boys, had fled back toward the Rio Grande when they encountered the agents—and escaped. But the group of migrants stayed put and were quickly loaded into a van and taken to a nearby federal immigration-processing center. Melissa Lucio, the Border Patrol’s patrol agent in charge of the agency’s McAllen station, said the encounter was routine. Thousands of families and unaccompanied immigrant children have come across the border this year in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley. They hardly ever run, Ms. Lucio said..The Rio Grande Valley has been the epicenter of a surge of hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied-child immigrants and families, mostly from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, caught crossing the border illegally in recent years. It has also been the focal point of President Donald Trump’s short-lived ‘zero-tolerance policy’ for illegal immigration, that led to the separation of thousands of families and caused widespread condemnation from lawmakers and immigration and civil-rights activists”
