NATIONAL SECURITY/RUSSIA/TRUMP PEOPLE: “White House national security adviser John Bolton will travel to Russia this month to discuss a possible summit meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the White House and Kremlin announced Thursday [6-21-18]…NSC spokesman Garrett Marquis confirmed the plans in a statement, saying Mr. Bolton in a trip from June 25 to June 27 plans to visit London and Rome, then travel to Moscow to discuss the ‘potential’ summit meeting. Mr. Bolton will be one of the highest-ranking Trump administration officials to visit Moscow, after former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visited last year. The Wall Street Journal reported this month that the White House has begun early preparations for a potential Trump-Putin summit. Mr. Putin has also been lobbying European leaders to help to help set a concrete date with the White House. One possibility for a summit is during Mr. Trump’s planned trip to Europe in July for a summit of North Atlantic Treaty Organization leaders. Neither U.S. nor Russian officials would confirm whether that timing is under consideration. Mr. Trump in July also plans to visit London.”
