JEFF SESSIONS/JUSTICE DEPARTMENT/ROBERT MUELLER/RUSSIA/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump on Tuesday [6-5-18] leveled his latest broadside against his own Justice Department and attorney general, lamenting on Twitter that someone other than Jeff Sessions could have avoided ‘so much time and money wasted, so many lives ruined’ by the special counsel’s probe into possible collusion between his associates and Russia…Mr. Sessions, a former U.S. senator and early Trump supporter who was tapped as attorney general, in March 2017 recused himself from the Russia investigation after revelations about his own contacts with Russians during the campaign. Mr. Trump has repeatedly attacked his attorney general over the past year—expressing as early as July 2017 that he wished he had chosen another man for the role—and in recent weeks has ramped up his criticism. Last week, Mr. Trump tweeted a quote from former U.S. attorney Joseph DiGenova—who came close to joining the president’s legal team earlier this year—calling Mr. Sessions’ recusal ‘an unforced betrayal of the president of the United States.'”
