GOP/RUSSIA/SENATE/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “A Republican-led Senate committee backed U.S. intelligence agencies’ finding that Moscow attempted to boost Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, breaking with a GOP-led House panel that examined the same material. The conclusion on the January 2017 intelligence finding was part of the committee’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election, which continues…That is a sharply different conclusion from the House Intelligence Committee, which found in a report earlier this year that Russia didn’t aim to boost Mr. Trump’s chances of winning the election in particular, but instead sought to subvert the notion of free and fair elections and spread ‘chaos and discord’ in the U.S. The U.S. intelligence community said in a Jan. 6, 2017 public conclusion that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a campaign to influence the outcome of the 2016 U.S. presidential election, and that Mr. Putin aspired to help Mr. Trump to victory as part of a broader ambition to undermine Western liberalism.”
