NORTH KOREA/NUCLEAR/SANCTIONS/SOUTH KOREA/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump said Friday [5-4-18] he has agreed to a time and place for his historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, but declined to announce the details…A White House spokeswoman didn’t immediately return a message seeking additional comment. Mr. Trump has said he wants meet Mr. Kim to urge the North Korean leader to dismantle his nuclear program and rid the Korean peninsula of nuclear weapons. The president isn’t willing to grant Pyongyang substantial relief from sanctions the U.S. and other countries have imposed in return merely for a freeze of its nuclear and missile tests, administration officials have said.Mr. Trump said earlier this week that he was considering Singapore and the demilitarized zone on the Korean Peninsula as the site for the summit, signaling a debate inside the White House over whether to hold the high-profile meeting in a neutral location or in the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas—on the doorstep of the North Korean leader.”
