GOP/LEGAL/MARCO RUBIO: “Sen. Marco Rubio said late Saturday [1-27-18] night that he had fired his chief of staff after learning a day earlier of allegations of improper conduct.
The Florida Republican said he first learned Friday of allegations that his chief of staff, Clint H. Reed, had ‘violated office policies regarding proper relations between a supervisor and their subordinates,’ which Mr. Rubio said led to actions which he believed ‘amounted to threats to withhold employment benefits.’
As soon as he learned of them, Mr. Rubio said he began an investigation with his general counsel and that he had determined by Saturday afternoon that he had sufficient evidence to corroborate the allegations.
Mr. Rubio said he traveled from Florida to Washington on Saturday to fire his chief of staff, effective immediately.
Mr. Reed, a former senior adviser to Mr. Rubio’s presidential campaign, had been his chief of staff since January 2017, according to Legistorm, a database of congressional staff. Mr. Reed previously worked as a partner at Impact Management Group, as a regional political director at the Republican National Committee, and as the executive director of the Arkansas Republican Party, according to his employment history on Legistorm. Mr. Reed didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.”
