LEGAL/ROBERT MUELLER/RUSSIA/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump on Wednesday [1-10-18] declined to commit to a potential meeting with special counsel Robert Mueller, who told the president’s lawyers last month that he may want to interview Mr. Trump soon as part of his investigation into whether Trump associates colluded with Russia’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 U.S. election…
According to a person familiar with the matter, Mr. Mueller told the president’s private lawyers in a meeting last month that he may seek an interview with Mr. Trump in the coming months, the Journal reported Monday. The person said some members of the Trump legal team believe a meeting between Mr. Mueller and Mr. Trump would be ‘gratuitous.’ In lieu of a sit-down interview, the lawyers have discussed accepting written questions and delivering written answers from the president to queries that are ‘appropriate and respectful of the office,’ the person said.
Mr. Mueller also is investigating whether the president obstructed justice by former FBI Director James Comey in May. In June, after Mr. Comey testified to Congress that Mr. Trump had asked him to back off of his investigation of former national security adviser Mike Flynn, Mr. Trump said he would be ‘100%’ willing to testify under oath that that didn’t happen. He also said he would consent to be interviewed by Mr. Mueller.”
