GOP/POLITICAL FIGURES/TAXES: “Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.), who has been battling an aggressive form of brain cancer, has returned to Arizona for physical therapy and will be back in the Senate in January, missing a tax vote scheduled for this week.
Mr. McCain’s office announced his new plans late Sunday [12-17-17], saying the senator would undergo physical therapy and rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic, which first diagnosed a brain tumor known as a glioblastoma over the summer. He could be seen in the Capitol in a wheelchair before he started missing votes…
Mr. McCain missed Senate votes last week because he was receiving treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center ‘for the normal side effects of his ongoing cancer therapy,’ his office said. His presence had been closely watched because Senate Republicans control 52 seats compared with 48 for Democrats and need a majority, or 50 votes if all members are present, to pass the tax bill. Vice President Mike Pence can break a tie.”
