INTELLIGENCE/RUSSIA/TERRORISM/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked U.S. President Donald Trump by telephone for intelligence that the Kremlin said had helped prevent a series of terrorist bombings in St. Petersburg, Mr. Putin’s office said Sunday [12-17-17].
The Kremlin said Mr. Putin had asked Mr. Trump to convey his appreciation to the Central Intelligence Agency director for the information, which allowed Russian authorities to locate and detain the alleged plotters who had intended to set off explosions at a cathedral and other public places.
The call is the second time in four days that Mr. Putin has praised Mr. Trump. On Thursday the Kremlin leader said at a news conference that the recent U.S. stock market performance spoke of investor confidence in the U.S. economy and Mr. Trump, who later thanked Mr. Putin for the comments in a telephone call…
The White House confirmed the call Sunday, saying that the Russians had been able to avert ‘a major terror plot…based on the information the United States provided’ and that the would-be attackers had been detained.”
