IMMIGRATION/LEGAL/TRAVEL BAN/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “A federal judge on Tuesday [10-17-17] blocked the Trump administration from implementing its planned new travel restrictions on people from six Muslim-majority countries, ruling the president’s latest ban on travel is likely unlawful.
U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson in Hawaii issued a temporary restraining order that prohibits the administration from enforcing or implementing the ban on people from those six countries nationwide.
The judge said the latest travel restrictions, announced by President Donald Trump on Sept. 24, improperly judge travelers’ risk to the U.S. based on their nationality. The judge said the president’s new policy doesn’t demonstrate that existing law is insufficient to address Mr. Trump’s concerns about national security.
Judge Watson’s 40-page opinion found that Mr. Trump’s latest ban ‘contains internal incoherencies’ that undermine its rationale for protecting national security.”
