GOP/PAUL RYAN: “Leaders of the House Freedom Caucus downplayed differences with Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday [9-7-17], despite reports that they confronted him Wednesday with concerns about his leadership.
Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) said House conservatives are frustrated at leadership’s tactical decisions — from going home for the August recess to advocating for an 18-month hike of the debt ceiling, without any conservative fiscal reforms attached…
Freedom Caucus vice chair Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told reporters at the breakfast the ‘American people are ticked off, they’re upset’ at Congress’ ineffectiveness.
‘That’s why we met with the speaker yesterday. It had nothing to do with a leadership change,’ Jordan said.
Yet a Washington Post report detailed a confrontation that came as Meadows has privately been discussing potential replacements for Ryan with Breitbart News boss Steve Bannon, a former senior aide to President Donald Trump, should rank-and-file Republicans get restless enough to oust the speaker.
Asked about the reports, Meadows demurred.”
