GOP/INTELLIGENCE/LEGAL/PAUL MANAFORT/RUSSIA: “The Republican-led Senate Judiciary Committee has issued a subpoena for Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, ordering him to appear before the panel on Wednesday [7-26-17].
In a joint statement, Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R, Iowa) and top Democrat Dianne Feinstein (D, Calif.) announced that negotiations over Paul Manafort’s voluntary cooperation with the panel had reached an impasse and that he was being subpoenaed as part of the committee investigation into foreign interference in U.S. elections.
While we were willing to accommodate Mr. Manafort’s request to cooperate with the committee’s investigation without appearing at Wednesday’s hearing, we were unable to reach an agreement,’ said Mr. Grassley and Ms. Feinstein.
‘We may be willing to excuse him from Wednesday’s hearing if he would be willing to agree to production of documents and a transcribed interview, with the understanding that the interview would not constitute a waiver of his rights or prejudice the committee’s right to compel his testimony in the future,’ the committee said.”
