2020 ELECTION/JANUARY 6TH/LEGAL: “Donald Trump and his legal team are attempting an ‘overreach’ in their latest legal filings trying to have Special Counsel Jack Smith held in contempt ahead of the federal election trial, according to an attorney.
Joyce Vance, a former federal prosecutor and legal analyst, was reacting to the former president’s lawyers asking a judge to hold Smith and his team of federal prosecutors in contempt for moving forward with the election case despite it currently being suspended pending appeal.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to four charges as part of Smith’s investigation into alleged criminal attempts to overturn the 2020 election results and the events that led to the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. Trump is attempting to have the case dismissed while arguing he is immune from prosecution because the allegations against him took place while he was in office.”
