CONGRESS/IMPEACHMENT: “The second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump was set to kick off Tuesday afternoon [Feb. 9, 2021], with House Democratic managers facing defense lawyers over the constitutional question of whether a president can be tried by the Senate after leaving office.

The session will feature presentations from both sides over the Senate’s authority to hear the case, followed by a vote on the matter, which requires a simple majority and is expected to pass in the Democratic-controlled chamber. If the matter passes, the Senate will then hear several days of arguments on the allegation that Mr. Trump incited an insurrection at the Capitol last month.”
