IMPEACHMENT/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/WHITE HOUSE STAFF: “President Donald Trump on Friday [2-7-20] said acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney will remain his top aide in the wake of the Senate impeachment trial that ended this week, dismissing news reports that suggested otherwise as ‘false.’ Asked by a reporter on the South Lawn whether Mulvaney would continue in his current role, Trump responded: ‘Yeah, yeah. That was a false report.’ Although he did not mention it directly, the president was likely referring to a story published earlier Friday by CNN, which reported that while close aides convinced Trump not to oust Mulvaney amid the contentious Senate impeachment proceedings, the professional future of the West Wing’s most senior staffer was now in question.”
