FEDERAL FUNDING/NEW YORK/TRANSPORTATION/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “In an effort to revive stalled plans for a new cross-Hudson rail tunnel — a proposal many consider the most important, unfunded construction project in the New York metropolitan area, if not the country — the project’s planners on Friday [8-23-19] proffered a funding proposal they hope will prove more appealing to the Trump administration. More than a year after the federal government said the project was effectively unfit for federal funding, project officials have submitted a new application. It asks for less funding from the Trump administration, thanks to the project’s new, slightly smaller price tag, and additional dollars from Amtrak…The Trump administration has shown no interest in helping Schumer deliver a tunnel for his constituents. Officials stubbornly insist the tunnel is nothing more than a local project, even though it belongs to Amtrak, comprises an integral link in Amtrak’s states-spanning Northeast Corridor and serves the financial capital of the United States.”
