BORDER/CALIFORNIA/LAWSUIT/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/WALL: “California is wasting no time in seeking to block Donald Trump’s emergency declaration. ‘Our message back to the White House is simple and clear: California will see you in court,’ Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement released shortly after Trump’s anticipated announcement that he would circumvent Congress and find funds to build a border wall by declaring a national emergency…Suing the federal government has become common practice for California under the Trump administration, with Becerra challenging dozens of Trump policies in court. California officials have telegraphed for weeks that they would immediately seek to block a national emergency…During his Spanish response to Trump’s State of the Union, Becerra said he was prepared ‘to reject this foolish proposal, in court, the moment it touches the ground.’ Days later, Newsom said he and Becerra had been strategizing for weeks about a legal response.”
