DEMS/JOHN MCCAIN/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump ordered Friday that flags fly at half-staff to honor former Democratic Rep. John Dingell, who died Thursday [2-7-19] after serving the longest tenure in Congress in the country’s history…The reverence contrasts starkly with Trump’s tepid reaction to the death of another Hill legend, Sen. John McCain, with whom the president maintained a bitter feud…Following the Arizona Republican’s death in August, Trump tweeted a quick message without mentioning the senator’s service in Congress or the military: ‘My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!’ Though Trump ordered flags lowered following McCain’s death, they were raised again only two days later, garnering fierce criticism from both sides of the aisle.”
