BUSINESS/JOBS/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump on Friday [2-1-19] praised Foxconn’s announcement that it will move forward with a facility in Wisconsin after he spoke to the company’s CEO, although the company did not explicitly say what type of jobs will be at the plant…Louis Woo, special assistant to Foxconn chairman and president Terry Gou, earlier this week told Reuters that the much-touted plans to build a facility in Wisconsin that would produce liquid crystal display TV screens were being shifted toward mostly research and engineering jobs. The company had originally promised thousands of blue-collar manufacturing jobs in the state, and Trump had heavily promoted the move as a sign of an industrial revival. The company received $4 billion in tax breaks and incentives from Wisconsin to build the TV screens. Woo, however, told Reuters that Foxconn ‘can’t compete’ in manufacturing the LCD screens in the U.S., and that in terms of TV manufacturing, the company has ‘no place in the U.S.’”
