AFGHANISTAN/NANCY PELOSI/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday [1-18-19] morning accused the Trump administration of leaking news that her delegation planned to salvage their Afghanistan trip by flying commercial, saying the disclosure made the situation ‘much more dangerous’ for her and others. Pelosi said she and the delegation were intending to travel abroad commercially but called the trip off after the White House put them in jeopardy by revealing information about the trip. The move injected more drama into the controversy after President Donald Trump on Thursday [1-17-19] made a very public show of grounding the military aircraft that was originally set aside for the trip…She said that she still intends to visit Afghanistan sometime in the future. It would have been extraordinarily rare for the speaker — who is second in line to the presidency — to fly commercial overseas on an official congressional trip, particularly to a war zone. But her spokesman Drew Hammill said she and other senior lawmakers in the delegation were initially going to move forward with the trip until details of their revised plans were also made public.”
