NORTH KOREA/SINGAPORE/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump struck a more optimistic note Friday [5-25-18] on North Korea, while the White House said a June 12 summit still could take place, even though Mr. Trump called it off just the day before. The head-snapping turn of events came after North Korea said early Friday that it remained willing to meet with Mr. Trump despite his decision to scrap plans for the historic meeting in Singapore with leader Kim Jong Un…The affable exchange took place after several days of increasingly acrimonious rhetoric, leading to Mr. Trump’s decision Thursday [5-24-18] to scrap the summit. Only a day later, however, it appeared as though the original meeting still could take place. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, speaking to reporters outside the White House, said Mr. Trump would like to revive the summit, if he is assured it would be fruitful…Asked about reports that a White House advance team is still planning to travel to Singapore to prepare for a possible summit, she said: ‘We’ll see. We still have a few hours before that takes place.’ Mr. Trump told reporters earlier Friday that dialogue with North Korea continued.”
