2016 ELECTION/DEMS/DEVIN NUNES/FBI/JUSTICE DEPARTMENT/TRUMP PEOPLE: “Senior Justice Department and FBI officials are set to brief lawmakers Thursday [5-24-18] afternoon about a confidential informant used in the early stages of an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, scrambling to accommodate Democrats who had complained that the briefing would be a GOP-only affair. Late Wednesday [5-23-18], the Justice Department announced it would hold two meetings on Thursday instead of the initial single briefing it had earlier announced for Republican Reps. Devin Nunes of California and Trey Gowdy of South Carolina. Mr. Nunes, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, has joined President Donald Trump is accusing law-enforcement officials of engaging in improper tactics at the outset of the Russia probe. The Justice Department now plans to hold one briefing at noon for Messrs. Nunes and Gowdy, with a second briefing at 2 p.m. for a bipartisan group of congressional leaders. The majority and minority leaders of the House and Senate, as well as the top Republican and Democrat on the each chamber’s intelligence committee, were invited to the second session.”
