ABORTION/HHS/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “The Trump administration will move ahead with restrictions on funding access for family planning providers that offer abortion services, the Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday [5-22-18]. The announcement came shortly before President Donald Trump was addressed the annual gala of the Susan B. Anthony List, a group that supports antiabortion candidates for federal office. There, Mr. Trump said his administration had made a ‘historic announcement’ and ‘kept another promise.’ A ‘proposed update’ to a program known as Title X, which provides family planning to low-income Americans, will require a separation—both financial and physical—between services provided through the grants and other services provided by facilities that include perform, support or refer patients for abortions. Antiabortion activists have rallied behind Mr. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, pointing to the president’s backing of judges who take a dim view of abortion rights. They have also cheered his administration’s support for health providers and employers whose religious beliefs oppose certain forms of contraception, abortion or other health services such as gender transition.”
