JUSTICE DEPARTMENT/POLICE/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump honored on Tuesday [5-15-18] the sacrifices of police officers killed in the line of duty, calling them ‘among the bravest Americans to ever live’ and vowing that his administration has a clear policy: ‘We will protect those who protect us…’ He shared a few stories of fallen officers, including off-duty police officer Charleston Hartfield, who saved countless lives during the Las Vegas shooting…Trump called on Congress to ‘secure our borders, support our border agents, stop sanctuary cities, and shut down policies that release violent criminals back into our communities,’ touting his administration’s policy to allow local police access to surplus military equipment to protect their law enforcement agents. He also called for the death penalty for criminals who kill police officers. Citing recent ambush attacks of police officers, Trump said he directed the Justice Department ‘to do everything in its power to defend the lives of American law enforcement.'”
