IRAN/NUCLEAR/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump said he would announce on Tuesday [5-8-18] his decision on whether to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, which he has repeatedly criticized. ‘I will be announcing my decision on the Iran Deal tomorrow from the White House at 2:00pm,’ Mr. Trump tweeted Monday [5-7-18] afternoon. Mr. Trump repeatedly has threatened to withdraw from the deal, which he has called ‘ridiculous,’ and earlier set a May 12 deadline for deciding whether to pull out. The agreement was struck between Iran and six world powers—the U.S., the U.K., Russia, France, China and Germany. In meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron late last month, Mr. Trump said he would like a new Iran deal with ‘solid foundations,’ but leveled dire warnings at Tehran about the current pact. Mr. Macron has tried to persuade Mr. Trump to stay in the pact, but said it was his ‘bet’ that Mr. Trump would withdraw.”
