DEMS/MIKE POMPEO/SECRETARY OF STATE/TRUMP PEOPLE: “Two more Senate Democrats said Monday [4-23-18] they would support Mike Pompeo for secretary of state, giving him some breathing room in the full Senate despite his likely rejection by the Senate panel considering his nomination. Sens. Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Joe Manchin of West Virginia—both representing red-leaning states that President Donald Trump won in the 2016 election—said Monday they would back Mr. Pompeo’s nomination. On Friday [4-20-18], another senator, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, said she would support Mr. Pompeo. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is on track to vote Monday evening against endorsing the current Central Intelligence Agency director to be secretary of state, which would mark an unusual rebuke to a central member of President Donald Trump’s foreign-policy team.”
