BUDGET/POLITICS/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “The effects of a government shutdown that began Saturday [1-20-18] will kick in more forcefully Monday morning across the federal bureaucracy, as agencies begin implementing contingency plans to scale back operations and send workers home.
The Senate is scheduled to vote at noon EST Monday whether to advance a measure that would reopen the government for three weeks, so the lapse in federal services that are shut down could be short-lived.
Still, without an agreement to resume operations Monday morning, agency leaders across government branches will take steps to prepare for a temporary closure, including notifying employees whether they will need to keep working or whether they must take unpaid leave, known as furlough. That follows a weekend when the shutdown’s effects were muted, as many federal offices were closed anyway…
There are two services that won’t be disrupted: the mail and the delivery of Social Security checks.”
