JOHN KELLY/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/TRUMP POSITION CHANGES: “President Donald Trump vented frustration at White House Chief of Staff John Kelly on Wednesday [1-17-18], upset about how Mr. Kelly described his immigration views in a Fox News interview and how he presented them to members of Congress earlier in the day, according to a person familiar with the matter.
In a late evening phone call with Mr. Kelly, Mr. Trump said he was upset when he learned that Mr. Kelly had told some U.S. lawmakers that the president’s campaign promise to build a wall along the Mexican border was ‘not fully informed’ and his view on immigration was evolving.
The chief of staff said in a Fox News interview Wednesday evening that he had told members of Congress that ‘there’s been an evolutionary process that this president has gone through…and I pointed out to all of the members that were in the room that they all say things during the course of campaigns that may or may not be fully informed.’…
‘He has complete confidence in Gen. Kelly,’ White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said when asked about a phone call between Messrs. Trump and Kelly on the issue.
Raj Shah, a White House spokesman, said that media reports—not Mr. Kelly’s comments—were the source of Mr. Trump’s frustration on Wednesday.”
