POLITICAL FIGURES: “Sen. Al Franken (D., Minn.) will leave Congress on Jan. 2, a spokesman said, setting a formal departure date after announcing earlier this month that he would resign over allegations of sexual harassment.
A former entertainer and political radio-show host, Mr. Franken was accused by several women of groping or forcibly kissing them during rehearsals or while posing for photos. Mr. Franken denied some of the accusations and said he remembers some instances differently, while also apologizing…
Mr. Franken spoke twice on the Senate floor on Wednesday [12-20-17] about legislation he was proud of passing. It was part of a series of speeches he plans to do about his legacy…
Mr. Franken will be replaced by Minnesota’s Lt. Gov. Tina Smith, who will also run in the special election set for November 2018 to keep the seat.
She will be sworn in on Jan. 3, along with Doug Jones, the newly elected Democratic senator from Alabama.”
