POLITICAL FIGURES/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “Alabama’s new senator, Doug Jones, said he doesn’t support calls by some fellow Democrats for President Donald Trump’s resignation over a renewed focus on the sexual misconduct allegations Mr. Trump faced during the 2016 campaign, and said he hoped to work with Republicans on some issues.
‘Those allegations were made before the election, and so people had an opportunity to judge before that election,’ Mr. Jones said on CNN’s ‘State of the Union’ program on Sunday. ‘I think we need to move on, and not get distracted by those issues.’
Mr. Jones scored an upset win in a special election for the U.S. Senate last week in the deeply Republican state, and said in a pair of interviews Sunday that he would try to work with Republicans and with Mr. Trump on issues including infrastructure and immigration…
When asked if he would consider an immigration plan that included a Democratic priority of helping people brought to the U.S. illegally as children, coupled with funding for a border wall that Mr. Trump has demanded, Mr. Jones said he believed a wall was an unnecessary expense but he would consider proposals…
Mr. Trump had criticized Mr. Jones during the campaign as likely to be a ‘puppet’ for Democratic leadership, but spoke to Mr. Jones after his victory in what Mr. Jones described as a ‘gracious’ call.”
