KEYSTONE/PIPELINES/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “Nebraska officials on Monday [11-20-17] are set to decide whether to green-light the Keystone XL pipeline, the last major regulatory approval standing in the way of the long-delayed project.
TransCanada Corp. first proposed Keystone XL, which would extend the company’s existing Keystone pipeline to carry oil 1,700 miles from Alberta to Steele City, Neb., in 2008. But opposition from landowners and others in Nebraska helped animate a national movement to protest the pipeline that effectively stalled it for years.
President Donald Trump revived Keystone XL in March, reversing an Obama administration federal directive to block its construction. But the pipeline still requires state-level approval from the Nebraska Public Service Commission.
Analysts expect the Nebraska commission, a five-person body comprised of four Republicans and one Democrat, to approve the expansion. But opponents could still challenge the project in state court, potentially delaying it for months, if a court grants an injunction…
The company said it would make a final decision on whether to proceed with the pipeline as early as next month, after the Nebraska vote and a review of customer demand.”
