JUSTICE DEPARTMENT/ROBERT MUELLER/RUSSIA: “The Russian state-funded foreign television network RT said Thursday that it would comply with a U.S. Department of Justice request that the channel register as a foreign agent, but announced its intention to fight the designation in court.
RT editor in chief Margarita Simonyan said in an article posted on the network’s website that the outlet’s U.S. division, RT America, would comply with the request because a failure to do so could result in the arrest of the network’s U.S. chief or a seizure of the its assets.
Ms. Simonyan said the Justice Department’s demand deprived RT of fair competition with other international channels, which haven’t registered as foreign agents…
Wyn Hornbuckle, a spokesman for the Justice Department, declined to comment…
U.S. lawmakers have been pushing to revamp FARA and give the Justice Department more powers to investigate potential violations, a response to the disclosures about the former Trump campaign officials and concerns about Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. campaign.”
