RAND PAUL: “The man who allegedly attacked Sen. Rand Paul outside of his home last week pleaded not guilty in a Kentucky court Thursday [11-9-17] to misdemeanor assault charges, as the senator’s office described the incident as unprovoked and not a result of any recent dispute.
Rene Boucher, 59 years old, was arraigned in a district court in Bowling Green, Ky. over what police say was an altercation with Mr. Paul, 54, in the gated community where both men own homes a few miles outside of downtown Bowling Green. Mr. Boucher is due back in court Nov. 30.
Doug Stafford, Mr. Paul’s chief political adviser and strategist, said the two neighbors have long been estranged and described the incident as a ‘serious criminal matter involving serious injury’ being investigated by local and federal authorities…
Kentucky state police say that Mr. Boucher came onto Mr. Paul’s property last Friday and attacked him from behind, according to an arrest report. As a result of the encounter, Mr. Paul suffered six broken ribs, including several displaced fractures—a medical term for when a bone separates into pieces and falls out of alignment from its typical position…
An attorney for Mr. Boucher said the incident was prompted by a ‘trivial’ dispute between neighbors.”
