FEDERAL RESERVE/NOMINATIONS/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump is expected to announce his choice for the next leader of the U.S. central bank next week, a person familiar with the matter said Friday [10-27-17].
The person cautioned that the president hasn’t made an official decision on the choice. But he is expected to make clear for the first time in his weekly address, set to be released later Friday, that he will announce a decision next week.
Mr. Trump said Wednesday he was very close to making a decision, and had narrowed the candidates down to ‘two, and maybe three’ people.
Mr. Trump is said to be leaning toward Fed governor Jerome Powell, who is going through the final stages of the White House vetting process, according to another person familiar with the matter. Stanford University economics professor John Taylor is also under serious consideration, and Mr. Trump in an interview Wednesday said he is still considering offering another term to Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen.
White House officials have said they expect Mr. Trump to make an announcement before his trip to Asia, which begins Friday Nov. 3.”
