CRISIS/FEMA/PUERTO RICO/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump on Sunday [10-1-17] criticized the media and what he called ungrateful politicians after his administration faced criticism for its early efforts to support hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.
Democrats have said Mr. Trump seemed to focus more on issues such as National Football League protests than the early federal response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory.
San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz also has challenged the federal government’s handling of the island’s crisis.
Mr. Trump dismissed those critics. ‘Outside of the Fake News or politically motivated ingrates…people are now starting to recognize the amazing work that has been done by FEMA and our great Military,’ Mr. Trump said in a tweet Sunday, referring to the Federal Emergency Management Agency…
‘Such poor leadership ability by the mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help,’ Mr. Trump said. ‘They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort.’…
Mr. Trump plans to visit Puerto Rico on Tuesday.”
