TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump was so inspired by Bastille Day celebrations in Paris when he visited earlier this year that he wants to hold a similar parade down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington to celebrate the Fourth of July, the U.S. leader told French President Emmanuel Macron.
‘It was one of the greatest parades I’ve ever seen,’ Mr. Trump said at the Lotte New York Palace hotel, where he had met earlier with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel. ‘And to a large extent, because of what I witnessed, we may do something like that on July 4th in Washington, down Pennsylvania Avenue. I don’t know. We’re going to have to try and top it. But we had a lot of planes going over and we had a lot of military might, and it was really a beautiful thing to see,’ he said, adding that when he had got back, he had asked his chief of staff John Kelly to look into options to replicate it to celebrate Independence Day in the U.S.
Washington typically observes the Fourth of July with a parade featuring marching bands, along with concerts and fireworks on the National Mall, while towns and cities nationwide hold their own parades and fireworks celebrations.”
