CRISIS/TEXAS/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump arrived in Texas on Tuesday [8-29-17] morning to survey the devastation from tropical storm Harvey, with scheduled stops in Corpus Christi and Austin.
In Corpus Christi, a Gulf Coast city about 200 miles southwest of Houston, the president is scheduled to receive a briefing on relief efforts from local officials and nonprofit groups.
In Austin, the state’s capital city, Mr. Trump is planning to tour the local emergency operations center and receiving a briefing from state officials.
The president’s schedule, however, was in flux because of continued poor weather in Texas, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters on Air Force One…
The president intends to return to Texas on Saturday to visit a different part of the state, Ms. Sanders said.
The president boarded Air Force One on Tuesday morning with his wife, Melania. White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, Deputy Chiefs of Staff Joe Hagin and Dina Powell, Ms. Sanders and Marc Short, the president’s legislative-affairs director, also traveled with the president.
Mr. Trump was also joined by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Small Business Administrator Linda McMahon and acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke.”
