FCC/NOMINATIONS/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump said he will nominate Brendan Carr, currently the Federal Communications Commission’s general counsel, as a Republican commissioner at the agency.
The choice is a victory for the FCC’s new Republican chairman, Ajit Pai. Mr. Carr was an aide to Mr. Pai before becoming the agency’s general counsel.
Mr. Carr would round out the 5-member commission, assuming the Senate also confirms Mr. Trump’s other pending choices. The president has proposed another term for Mr. Pai, and has nominated Jessica Rosenworcel, who previously served as a Democratic FCC commissioner, but had to leave office in January after her reconfirmation bid ran aground last year.
Republicans in the Senate recently have urged the White House to pick a third Republican to simplify the often-fraught confirmation process. Commerce Committee Chairman John Thune (R., S.D.) also hopes to use the process to accelerate passage of stalled telecommunications legislation.
Before becoming general counsel, Mr. Carr was Mr. Pai’s legal adviser on wireless, public safety and international issues. He previously was an attorney at Wiley Rein LLP.”
