ATTORNEY GENERAL/TRUMP PEOPLE/JEFF SESSIONS: “U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has dispensed with another federal feature designed to protect citizens from over-reach by government, perhaps giving context to the Trump administration’s vow to crack down on crime, one way or the other.
Sessions announced yesterday [4-10-17] that his Justice Department will no longer require the services of independent scientists who’ve partnered with the government to enhance national standards on forensic science, which vary from state to state and have been found to contain some troubling gaps. Alongside praise for the importance of accurate, up-to-code forensic evidence in enforcing federal law, Sessions stated he would not be extending the term of the National Commission on Forensic Science (NCFS), which included a couple dozen leading experts from across the legal and scientific communities, in favor of a new, as yet undetermined approach.”
