CABINET/TREASURY/TRUMP PEOPLE/STEVEN MNUCHIN: “Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the Trump administration is close to completing its proposal to overhaul the U.S. tax code and said any legislation to reduce corporate and individual rates needed to be comprehensive.
‘We’re not cutting this up and doing little pieces at a time,’ he said at an event in Washington sponsored by Axios, a media company.
Mr. Mnuchin said he remains optimistic Congress will advance legislation through the House of Representatives on Friday to repeal major provisions of Obamacare, and he dismissed talk of a political debacle for the White House if the bill doesn’t advance as premature.
Mr. Mnuchin also said passing a tax-code overhaul would be easier than advancing the health-care legislation. ‘In a way, it is a lot simpler,’ he said. ‘In health care, it’s a much, much more complicated issue.’ “
